Veneers or crowns , what is the difference?
The porcelain veneer covers only the front surface of the tooth, which allows minimal, and sometimes no, eruption of the natural teeth. A dental crown, on the other hand, covers the entire tooth structure, necessitating circumferential filing.
Veneers are primarily a cosmetic dental treatment that corrects the appearance of the smile without strengthening or restoring the teeth. They are only suitable for healthy teeth without serious damage. Crowns not only improve aesthetics, but also restore the strength and function of teeth, especially if they are affected by tooth decay or other damage to tooth tissues.
How is the procedure for the insertion of the facets?
At the initial appointment, a thorough examination of your teeth and gums is performed to determine if you are a suitable candidate. If the result is positive, minimal enamel filing follows. A bite scan is then taken and temporary veneers are placed.
The scan data is sent to a dental laboratory where the custom veneers are made. Usually two more visits are needed – for a trial and for the final fixation of the permanent structures.
Is special care required?
Brushing, flossing and regular visits to the dentist are all you need to do to keep your veneers in good condition. Whitening products are no longer necessary as veneers do not change their colour.
